Since joining the royal family when she married Prince Harry in 2018, Meghan Markle hasn’t exactly had an easy go of it — even now, as the feud between Harry and his family continues. So it’s not surprising that she’d want to be prepared to fight back if she needed to, and according to one royal expert, that means there’s a secret “weapon” she’s keeping close to her in case she decides to exact her revenge. If she ever uses it, though, there may truly be no going back for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
There’s one option for payback Meghan’s holding back on: A tell-all book.
She and Harry have done hard-hitting interviews like their sit down with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, along with their 2022 Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan. Harry’s memoir, Spare, also dropped more than a few bombshells about the royals that King Charles likely would have preferred remained private.
However, Meghan has yet to express herself in a book of her own, and according to what former BBC correspondent Jennie Bond told the UK’s OK! magazine, there could be an important reason for that.
She’s keeping her options open.
Apparently, Meghan mentioning that she kept a journal during her time in the royal family years ago is enough of a hint that a book is a possibility for her.
“It’s more than two years since she gave that interview, and she has steered clear of controversy about the royal family since,” Jennie told the outlet, via The Mirror. “Obviously, the journal she mentioned will remain a potential weapon in her back pocket if she ever feels the need to seek some sort of revenge. But she has behaved with discretion and dignity ever since Oprah and the documentary series.”
Harry has mentioned Meghan’s journal before, too.
As the Daily Mail has pointed out, in his book, Spare, Harry wrote about Meghan writing in her journal after the birth of their second child, Lilibet.
“She jotted some thoughts in a kind of journal. Which she shared. I read them as a love poem. I read them as a testament, a renewal of our vows,” Harry wrote. “I read them as a citation, a remembrance, a proclamation.”
But Jennie doesn’t believe Meghan will use her ‘weapon’ unless she has to.
“I think she is looking forwards, not backwards and is moving on with her life,” Jennie said. “So I don’t think we should be raising false alarms about any potential memoir.”
That would likely be a relief for the royal family if true, because so far, none of the stories that Meghan and Harry have shared about them have been glowing reviews.
If Meghan does speak out, there would no doubt be plenty of people interested to hear what she has to say.
But given that she and Harry mostly seem happy to do their own thing these days, there doesn’t seem to have been many reasons that could push Meghan to spill what she knows in a long time. Maybe this level of calm will stick around forever, but knowing how high tensions still seem to be in the family, that might just be a pipe dream.
