“When I started to get a little bit desperate was when it started to cover my face, and there was a spot really close to my eye, and it would just burn a little bit,” she said.
Over the years, Kim Kardashian has been pretty open about her experience with psoriasis, and she recently got candid about how a flare-up nearly ruined her 2022 Met Gala appearance.
On Tuesday’s episode of SHE MD, Kim told podcast hosts Mary Alice Haney and Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi that whenever psoriasis shows up on her face, “it’s only this one spot that will itch. And it will really, really itch when it does.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, psoriasis is “a skin disease that causes a rash with itchy, scaly patches, most commonly on the knees, elbows, trunk, and scalp.” The chronic condition is caused when the immune system becomes overactive, which causes skin cells to multiply too quickly.
“When I started to get a little bit desperate was when it started to cover my face, and there was a spot really close to my eye, and it would just burn a little bit,” she continued. “I remember I had the Met Ball coming up that week, and it was covering my face.”
“Was that stress-related?” Haney asked. “I can imagine that something’s causing that. Because had that happened before on your face?”
“It hadn’t, no. I’m trying to think of what I was going through at that time. There’s a lot I could say,” Kim said. She added that she experienced a flare-up of psoriatic arthritis in addition to the psoriasis.
At the time, Kim spoke to Allure and said that her diet caused the outbreak. “Psoriasis broke out over my body and I got psoriatic arthritis, so I couldn’t really move my hands. I had to go to a rheumatologist who put me on a steroid. I was freaking out. I cut out the meat again, and it’s calmed down.”
“I think I manage my stress pretty well, so it’s shocking to me,” she continued.
Kim’s 2022 Met Gala appearance came shortly after her divorce from Kanye West was finalized. Also, around this time, Ye and Kim’s then-boyfriend, Pete Davidson, were publicly feuding.
Kim added that luckily, no one noticed her psoriasis on the red carpet. “We did put on concealer. And I remember him vividly saying, ‘It’s so crazy that your makeup is holding really well on it.’ So he wasn’t concerned,” she said.
Additionally, she adjusted her diet and “fell asleep with tar patches on [her] face and homeopathic creams. [She] was literally drinking [her] tar teas.” She added, “Sometimes I get super insecure about it and I put body makeup on. And sometimes I’m just like, I really don’t care.”
“I was doing everything I could possibly do at that time,” she finished.
